More Teaching … Fewer Subs … Fair Policy for Accrued PTO - HAPPENING NOW
SUSD's current "use it or lose it" policy encourages teachers to use up their accrued PTO toward the end of their careers, causing staffing shortages on campus and learning loss for students.
Check out this news article written by Desert View graduate Refugio Del Cid about how SUSD teachers accrue hours of paid time off, but lose them when they retire or leave the district.

Advocacy Committee: The Advocacy Committee provides support for members with evaluations, potential disciplinary actions, and workplace compliance issues.
Communication Committee: The Communication Committee facilitates communication among SEA committees and across different work sites. This includes maintaining the SEA website, calendar, and social media platforms.
Instruction & Professional Development (IDP) Committee: The IDP Committee brings new ideas and current best practices to educators in a meaningful and accessible manner. This allows us to enhance our skills as educators to provide the best outcomes for our students.
Interest Based Bargaining (IBB): SEA’s representatives on IBB participate in monthly meeting with administrative and classified staff to coordinate employee contracts, climate, benefits, and issues of employee concerns.
Membership Committee: The Membership Committee works to recruit new members to Sunnyside Education Associations well as retain current members on an ongoing basis. It also maintains current, accurate membership lists and contact information.
Political Action Committee: The Political Committee works to create a body of members who are educated about and active in education-related political issues at the local, state, and national levels.
Social Committee: The Social Committee’s focus is to bring members together in a relaxed, collegial environment. This allows us to maintain educators’ morale as well as to discuss issues across sites and grade levels.
